Saturn's projects are located in eastern Saskatchewan & western Manitoba, centered on the town of Hudson Bay (pop. 2,500). Regional infrastructure is excellent with two major rail-lines owned by CN Rail and CP Rail and a spider-web of provincial highways capable of bearing heavy machinery. The properties are underlain by the various geological formations of the eastern margins of the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin (WCSB) which is home to the majority of Canadian coal, oil, natural gas, oil sands and potash reserves. Historically, the region has experienced very little exploration leaving most of the area's potential as unrealized. Saturn's exploration in the area began in 2009 with the acquisition of a suite of coal properties. Through 2010 and 2011, Saturn has been successful in discovering two significant coal seams on the Armit Property and the Overflowing Property, including a massively thick 89m continuous coal intersection at 45m depth (the Karolina Discovery, 2011). In the course of coal exploration, Saturn has identified oil in drill core from older rock strata beneath the coal bearing zones. In 2011 Saturn acquired over 1,500 sq. km of oil & gas rights and is set to begin exploring for oil & gas in 2012 |
